Fall color tour - Part 4

Our home-away-from-home at Skowhegan, ME. On Tuesday we toured the coastline from Belfast, ME to Bar Harbor, ME returning to a lovely Mexican restaurant in Bangor, ME before heading back to our cabin for the night.

 The bridge at Penobscot Narrows.

Stopped at the Maine Maritime Academy and saw their big training vessel. That is a huge complex of buildings at Castine, ME on route 166

One of only a few wildlife seen on our trip.
Tour ship anchored just out of harbor at Bar Harbor, ME.. People were very unhappy as government shutdown closed Acadia National Park so they couldn't get in.
This house illustrates how many of the houses in New England are built. Each building is attached to one another. I guess that makes moving about one's buildings easier in winter storms.
Saw acres and acres of these fields until I finally stopped to see what it was.
These are the Maine wild blueberry fields. Although it was past harvest time I had to see how these plants grew. They are only about 6 - 8 inches tall and cover the fields beside the highway. Would love to visit when the blueberries were ripe. These fields were along highway 193N on our way back to Bangor for supper at Pepitos Mexican restaurant before heading to our KOA cabin.

On Wednesday we headed for the coast again. This time we wanted to go along the coast from Belfast to Portland, ME
Stopped in Camden, ME for lunch and some sightseeing. Very tourist oriented town.

Our wallets are beginning to get depleted so could only afford one pina colada smoothy. It was delicious as was lunch at Boynton-McKay restaurant in Camden.
A view of Camden from Camden State Park.

Fran was determined to put her hands in the Atlantic water.
Just East of Camden we decided to stay at this neat motel. It is owned by a fellow from Ireland and the name Claddagh translates to "1000 thank U's". I learned long ago to let Fran go in to check on motels and I stay in the car. She has the knack for getting lower prices and better deals as was the case here. He only had a room with twin beds left besides the suite. He ended up giving us the suite for the same price as the little room with twin beds! here's what our suite looked like.

 Continental breakfast as well!!
Wednesday eveing we walked out onto a causeway and lighthouse that extended about a mile into the bay. This tour ship was anchored off the lighthouse.

Huge stone slabs made walking fairly easy

As we were walking back we noticed the ship had turned around and was heading out of the bay past the lighthouse.
Our supper stop before heading back to the motel.
Thursday morning we continued down the coast towards Portland, ME

One of several loons Fran got to see on our trip.

I made peace with a couple of the natives.
Fran was getting a little too friendly with this fellow. Stopped over in Freeport ME where Fran got to do some shopping for shoes. Thursday night we stayed in the Hampton Inn at South Portland, ME. Did some mall walking and supper at HomeTown Buffet.
